5 Resolutions to Finally Start Your Virtual Assistant Business in 2025

If you’ve been daydreaming about breaking free from the daily grind, working from anywhere, and finally having a career that aligns with your life, 2025 is your year. Starting a virtual assistant (VA) business can feel like a big leap, especially if you’ve never run a business before, but trust me—it’s not as overwhelming as it seems. I know because I’ve been in your shoes. Just 5 years ago, I was just like you: unsure where to start, nervous about the unknown, but excited about the possibilities.

However, with over eight years of experience supporting C-suite executives and entrepreneurs, I had the skills to keep busy execs organized, so why not myself? I’ve helped others do the same, and today, I’m here to help you take the first step toward your dreams.

Let’s dive into five resolutions that will help you confidently start your virtual assistant business in 2025.

Resolution #1: Define Your “Why” and Own Your Story

Every great journey starts with a clear why. Why do you want to become a virtual assistant? Maybe you’re craving flexibility to spend more time with your family, tired of feeling undervalued at your current job, or ready to take control of your financial future.

For me, it was freedom. I was tired of trading my time for someone else’s dreams. I wanted to build something for myself that didn’t require clocking in at 8 a.m. sharp or answering emails at midnight because of a boss’s last-minute whim.

Take a moment to write down your “why.” Let it anchor you when doubt creeps in (because it will). Your story is your superpower, no matter how messy or uncertain it feels right now. It’s what makes you relatable, and it’s what will set you apart in the VA world.

Resolution #2: Start Before You’re Ready

Here’s the truth: You’ll never feel ready. Waiting for the perfect time, the perfect skills, or the perfect plan will only hold you back. Instead, start where you are with what you have.

When I began, I didn’t have fancy branding, a polished website, or a long list of clients. What I did have was a willingness to learn and the determination to make it work. In fact, I was in business for almost a year before I even thought about creating a website. Even now, it’s super basic!

Don’t overthink it. Your first step could be something as simple as creating a LinkedIn profile or telling your friends and family about your new business. Taking small, consistent actions will build your confidence and momentum.

Resolution #3: Commit to Learning, Not Perfection

One of the biggest myths about starting a VA business is that you need to know everything before you begin. The reality? Learning happens as you go.

In my early days, I said yes to projects that scared me. Did I know how to manage a busy company IG like a pro? Not at first. But I Googled, practiced, and eventually became an expert. The beauty of being a VA is that the skills you need—time management, organization, communication—can all be learned and refined.

Make 2025 the year you commit to learning something new every month. Take a course, watch YouTube tutorials, or invest in my Virtual Assistant Launch Bundle (wink!) to fast-track your progress.

Resolution #4: Set Clear, Achievable Goals

When you’re new to business, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by all the things you can do. That’s why setting clear goals is so important.

Instead of saying, “I want to start a VA business,” get specific. For example:

January: Choose my VA niche and create a simple services list.

February: Land my first client using a free portfolio template.

March: Set up my invoicing system and create a workflow to stay organized.

Break your big dream into smaller, manageable steps. Celebrate each win—no matter how small—because progress is progress.

Resolution #5: Build a Support System

Let’s be real: Entrepreneurship can feel lonely, especially when working from your couch in your pajamas. (Don’t worry—pajama days are one of the perks!) That’s why having a support system is crucial.

Surround yourself with people who believe in you and your vision. This could be a mentor, a fellow VA, or a FB online community. In 2025, make it a goal to connect with others on the same journey.

When I started, I joined Facebook groups for VAs, attended virtual networking events, and found a mentor who guided me through my first few months. Having people who “get it” makes all the difference when you’re feeling stuck or uncertain.

A Quick Pep Talk Before You Go

Starting your VA business might feel scary, but remember: Every successful entrepreneur started with zero clients, zero experience, and zero clue about what they were doing. What sets them apart is their decision to take action anyway.

You don’t need to have all the answers right now. You just need to trust yourself and take the first step. By this time next year, you could be running your own business, setting your own schedule, and living the life you’ve been dreaming about.

So, here’s to 2025—the year you finally go for it. And if you ever need guidance, encouragement, or a little tough love, I’ll be here cheering you on every step of the way.
